Elton John and his partner David Furnish are taking the next step in formalizing their relationship.
Furnish tells "The Las Vegas Review-Journal" he and Elton plan to get married in Britain later this spring. The couple united in a civil union ceremony in the UK eight years ago.
Last week same sex weddings were legalized in Britain. Furnish says he and Elton don't feel like they have to wed for legal reasons. He explains that since they're "committed for life" they feel "it's really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation," because "we all live by example."
Furnish adds that while he and Elton "do like big parties," they plan to make their wedding a small event. They celebrated their civil union with a lavish party for 650 guests. But David says "with the kids everything is different." So for their wedding they'll just be accompanied by their sons and some friends who'll serve as witnesses. Elton and David plan to tie the knot in May.
