Wednesday, March 5th…it's almost time to be Daytona bound. This year will be very unique because of the Polar Vortex! My co host and riding partner Roy will be riding down in a Mazda not a BMW. No Mazda does not make motorcycles they make fuel efficient cars. Because of the Polar Vortex Roy nor I can chance being stuck in Virginia for a couple of days if the weather turns worse so we're driving separate but for similar reasons. Last March 2013 we left Wytheville, Virginia at 7am and experienced 33 degree weather, light rain and eventually in WVA high winds. A difficult run made worse because I only stopped for gas. No lunch, no food, no warmth I just wanted to be out of the bad weather and the only way to do that was to keep going. Me thinks Roy remembers that and doesn't want to revisit those days so Doug our friend and Roy will travel in a Mazda. I on the other hand will load up Slug-O onto my Harbor Freight trailer and make the trip to Daytona. On my way back I'll travel through Alabama to pick up my Penton Jack Piner thus the reason for me trailering. Guess we can't make fun of all those guys who trailer this year cuzz we're one of them!
Even though Slug-O circumvented Lake Erie I will have to be doubly careful to not get onto high speed roads and get run over. Maybe it'll be fun tooling around at 35 mph all day? Slow things down and really enjoy Daytona like I haven't done before.
I will be the guests of the BMW North East Florida chapter and maybe get a couple rides in as well as hanging with Craig Vetter during the AMA's Breakfast banquet at the Daytona 500 Club! yeah nice huh?
I am hopeful my pressure switch comes in at Ray Gollans Honda for my XR 250 so I can run a brake light and take that bike. It'll be down to the wire so who knows..I'd sure like to Bee-Bop around on a 250 rather than a moped but a moped is better than a trolley which is what Roy will be traveling on..ha,ha
Tune in to our Daytona Bike Week Show where we'll have Marina Alley from the Florida BMW Club on, Brent Balika our Baja 1000 pilot is stopping by to talk about the Alligator Enduro, Pete Cline from Vet Motorsports will discuss the new fundraiser..tee shirts for the veterans. Stay tuned that and a whole lot more!
Saturday March 15th is the Daytona 200 and I am anxious to see how well Peagram Racing /Foremost Insurance does on the Eric Buell entry. Best of luck to Larry and to Josh Hayes two of our long time contributors to the 2 Wheel Power Hour.
We'll have some terrific interviews and pics when we return.
I really mean it when I say, "I wish you were here". Everyone in our listening area is tired of WINTER..this Saturday night we turn our clocks forward and that will help. Daylight is always better when going home from work.
See ya in Daytona!
