Study: Screen Time Reduces Child Brain Function

Spending hours on a screen may be damaging children's brain development.  An ongoing study by the National Institute of Health is following the brain development of children and its relation to technology over the course of several years.  Researchers have discovered, by studying the brain activity of 4,500 children so far, that seven hours or more a day on smartphones and tablets can change the very structure of a brain, thinning the cortex prematurely.  This structural reduction leads to limited memory, perception, cognition and IQ.  Nearly 12,000 children will be studied for the next decade in the $400,000,000 Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development study.
