COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A Columbus man is being held on $2-million bond for the rape of a 10-year-old girl, who got pregnant and went to Indiana to get an abortion.

27-year-old Gerson Fuentes did not enter a plea in Franklin County Court Wednesday.

The victim's mother called Franklin County Children's Services, saying the girl was pregnant. She took the rape victim to Indianapolis in late June to get an abortion.

It was shortly after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and a law went into effect in Ohio banning abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected.

The child rape story was first published in the Indianapolis Star, and President Biden mentioned it when discussing abortion rights at the White House.

Pro-life politicians had questioned the validity of the story, claiming it was fabricated by abortion activists. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost originally noted the one-sourced story, and offered no apology or walk-back when he talked to ABC-6 on Wednesday, after the suspect's arrest.

Congressman Jim Jordan originally put out a tweet, saying the Biden administration told a "lie" with the story, but that tweet was later deleted.

Meanwhile, the doctor in Indiana that performed the abortion is in trouble for violating her patient's privacy rights. Dr. Caitlin Bernard is being disciplined by her employer for violating HIPAA laws.
