Authorities in the Dominican Republic say former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was not the intended target of a shooting that left him seriously hurt.
Prosecutors say gunmen were looking to kill a friend of Ortiz who was sitting near him at a bar in Santo Domingo at the time of the shooting earlier this month.
Apparently, the two were dressed similarly and it was a case of mistaken identity.
The would-be assassins were reportedly paid about eight-thousand-dollars to carry out the hit.
Nearly a dozen people have been arrested in connection with the shooting.
