Good News: Community Helps WWII Vet Get New Roof

Back in 2017, Hurricane Irma badly damaged the roof on 94-year-old Leo McLarney’s home in Palmetto Bay, Florida. The World War II veteran and survivor of Pearl Harbor had been living underneath a blue tarp since the storm, but after his story aired on local news recently, people in his community were happy to help him out.

McLarney’s story touched the hearts of many and donations started pouring in to get this elderly war vet a desperately needed new roof. The director of Miami-Dade’s long term disaster recovery group says McLarney has a new roof and they’re now working on replacing his water-damaged carpet and having his house painted. Don’t you love a happy ending?
