Oscar Mercado, Mike Clevinger Lift Tribe to a 7-3 Victory

TORONTO -- Oscar Mercado homered and tripled and Mike Clevinger pitched seven strong innings as they propel the Indians to a 7-3 victory on Monday night over the Toronto Blue Jays to move to 13-3 in July and a major league best 29-11 since June 4.

The scoring started in the 2nd for the Indians when Francisco Lindor singled home two to give the Indians an early lead. Jason Kipnis, who had two hits and scored two runs of his own, had an RBI single in the 3rd to give the Indians a 3-1 lead, after Justin Smoak put the Blue Jays on the board with a solo homer in the 2nd.

Roberto Perez drove in his 40th run of the season with a RBI double in the 5th to put the Indians up 4-1, and then in the bottom of the inning Toronto answered with a two-run home run from Billy McKinney to cut the Indians lead to 4-3, and in the 6th inning, Oscar Mercado continued his hot streak at the plate by hitting a RBI triple to put the Tribe 5-3, and when Mercado came back up in the 8th, he hit his 8th home run of the year to put the Tribe up for good making it 7-3.

On the mound Mike Clevinger matched his longest outing of the year pitching 7 innings, striking out 7, while allowing 3 runs on 5 hits to earn his 4th win of the year, and Tyler Clippard came in and pitched two perfect innings to close it out.

The series continues on Tuesday when Trevor Bauer (9-7, 3.67 ERA) takes on Aaron Sanchez (3-14, 6.26 ERA) with the first pitch at 7:07.
