CLEVELAND, OH -- The Cleveland Indians continued their utter dominance against the Detroit Tigers with a 7-0 win in the season series finale. Tonight's win marked Cleveland's 17th consecutive victory over the Tigers, including six total shutouts during the streak.
Tribe starter Mike Clevinger (12-3) struggled out of the gates, throwing 33 pitches in the first inning while getting out of a bases loaded jam unscathed. Clevinger bounced back with 17 total pitches throughout the following two innings. Clevinger earned his 12th win of the season, throwing 6.0 innings. giving up 0 earned runs on 7 hits, striking out 6 batters.
Francisco Lindor got the tribe on the board in the first inning, tagging up from third base on a shallow fly ball to left field, beating out the tag at home by a split second. Franmil Reyes crushed a 2-run homerun to the bleachers in left field in his first game back after taking a few games off for personal reasons. Tribe backstop Roberto Perez continued his consistent clutch hitting with a 2-out 2-RBI single that blew the game wide open.
With a victory over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night, the Cleveland Indians move into the second American League wildcard spot, as they are now tied with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Indians will take on the visiting Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game weekend series at Progressive Field. Friday night's matchup pits tribe starter Shane Bieber against Phillies hurler Drew Smyly. First pitch is set for 7:10 pm ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Friday night.
