Millions of Americans are bracing for an early winter as a storm system threatens to bring snow to people across 20 states.
"Unseasonably cold conditions will continue for the center of the country through the eastern U.S. this week, setting the stage for potential wintry weather," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Nicole LoBiondo.
The storms will stretch from Texas to Illinois and bring some areas the first snowfall of the season. LoBiondo said that the biggest accumulation of snow will be in Oklahoma, where three-to-six inches is expected to fall.
The storm will move east while another winter storm forms along the Mid-Atlantic coast. That storm could bring snow, ice, and rain to the Ohio Valley and up into New England, where some areas could see up to 16 inches of snow.
The cold weather is expected to last throughout the week as 90% of Americans brace for below-average temperatures just days after seeing record-setting heat.
"When we compare where we were (Sunday), especially along the Eastern Seaboard, we are chilly," FOX Weather meteorologist Jason Frazer said. "So, we are about 11 degrees cooler in New York City. About 18 degrees cooler down in Raleigh, North Carolina, and down in Charleston, South Carolina, we are about 22 degrees cooler."
