Votes from Tuesday's (June 2) primary elections in California are still being counted, leaving several key races undecided. In the gubernatorial race, Republican Steve Hilton and Democrat Xavier Becerra are leading, with Tom Steyer trailing. The top two finishers, regardless of party, will advance to the general election in November.
In Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass and reality TV star Spencer Pratt are currently leading in the mayoral race, with City Councilwoman Nithya Raman in third place. Bass and Pratt are expected to advance to the runoff, though a significant number of ballots remain uncounted.
Meanwhile, Proposition CB, which aims to tax unlicensed cannabis businesses in Los Angeles, is poised to pass with 70% support. However, Measure ER, a proposal to increase LA County's sales tax, appears to be heading for defeat, with over 52% voting against it.
In other races, Democratic State Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin and Republican Sam Galluci are advancing to the November runoff for California's 26th Congressional District. The LA County Registrar's Office will provide the next vote count update at 4 p.m. Thursday.
The gubernatorial race has drawn significant attention, with President Trump endorsing Hilton, who leads with 27.6% of the votes. Becerra follows with 25.5%, and Steyer holds 19.7%. The race for Los Angeles mayor remains too close to call, with Bass leading at 35% and Pratt at 29.9%, but Raman is closing the gap with 22.8%.
As vote counting continues, the outcomes of these pivotal races will shape California's political landscape heading into the November general election.
