Woman Fights Off 5-Foot Gator With Bare Hands To Save Puppy

Danie Wright of Land O’ Lakes, Florida, fought off a five-foot alligator to save her four-month-old puppy, Dax. The attack happened last week when the gator lunged from a creek and clamped down on the pup’s collar during a walk behind her home. “The alligator had him by his collar and dragged him, and I wasn’t gonna let go,” she recalls.

Wright struck the gator repeatedly until it released Dax. “I just punched him in the eye enough that he kind of let go,” she says. During the struggle, the gator briefly got ahold of her, leaving her with teeth marks down her arm. Her pup escaped without injury, while Wright is recovering from her bite wounds.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission later trapped and removed the alligator from the area. Wright is now warning fellow pet owners to be cautious near bodies of water, saying, “These alligators are no joke.”
