Another Halloween yard display is causing problems, this time in Alabama. The display in the yard of Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch shows an ICE raid, with skeletons wearing ICE shirts chasing other skeletons wearing sombreros and ponchos climbing over a fence. The sheriff's wife, Michelle Burch, says the decorations are tongue in cheek and that the sheriff had nothing to do with the display other than mowing the grass around it.
One Mobile resident who wants to remain anonymous said the display is disrespectful, racist, and promotes racial profiling, adding that elected officials set the tone for the city. Others defended the display, saying the Burches should be able to do whatever they want on their property. The display comes after Sheriff Burch defended one of his deputies on October 1st for punching a suspected undocumented immigrant who was face down on the ground. Michelle Burch said she will be making a new display shortly.
