A 66-year-old Baltimore woman, who’s legally blind due to an inherited genetic disease, completed the New York City Marathon with the support of volunteer guides from the Achilles International Baltimore chapter.
Jackie King started losing her vision gradually and turned to long-distance running, building confidence and endurance through training and community support.
She trained for 20 weeks after securing a marathon spot and ran alongside guides to navigate the course safely.
King says running has allowed her to continue pursuing athletic goals despite her vision loss.
