Lyft driver Del Hendrick was dropping off a passenger at an apartment complex at around 10:30 at night when he noticed a toddler walking around on the road alone. It was pouring outside and the 18-month-old girl wasn’t wearing shoes or proper outdoor clothing, he explains in a video posted to his Twitter account. So he called the police and took the little girl around the Santa Rosa, California apartment complex, hoping to find an open door she escaped from.
Hendrick had no luck finding her home, so he took the toddler back to his car to get out of the rain as they waited for officers to arrive. Santa Rosa Police say an officer arrived soon after and was able to find the baby’s family. They explain that it was “a total oversight by a babysitter” who didn’t realize the little tyke had gotten out and that it “looks like an open-door kind of thing.”
Santa Rosa Police gave the driver a shout out for taking charge in a scary situation and keeping the baby safe. “Del Hedrick's actions demonstrate how we all work together to keep our community safe,” the departmenttweeted. “His initiative to shelter the toddler & help reunite her w/ family is both heartening & inspiring.”Source: San Francisco Gate
