A California fisherman spent 10 minutes reeling in a big fish in Sonoma County recently, but it turns out, he actually caught a sevengill shark.James White says when he went to remove the hook from the shark, it twisted and bit him on the ankle. Lucky for him, his one-year-old, 100-pound pit bull, Darby, was there to save him.
White says he tried to free his leg from the six-foot shark, but couldnāt get away. After hearing his owner yell for help, Darby ran down to the water and bit the shark in the gills, which only made it sink itās teeth deeper into White. He says the dog then changed position and grabbed the shark by the tail, dragging it up the hill and pulling it off his ownerās leg.
The fisherman says he then threw the shark back into the water and it swam away. White credits Darby with saving him, saying, āIf it wasnāt for him, it wouldāve been a lot worse.ā
